UTSA Campus activity board marketing coordinator

From creating printable tactics to spearheading our social strategy, I worked with groups of students, athletes, organizations, and the San Antonio community to increase participation and fundraise for UTSA’s BeBold Campaign. I led out marketing for large scale UTSA events by designing, editing, recording, photography, and copywriting in addition to strategizing our event campaigns with alignment from stakeholders.

What’s the problem?

  • Roadrunner Productions (the name of UTSA’s Campus Activity Board) hosts the three major events at UTSA (BestFest, Howdy Rowdy Bash, and Dia en la Sombrilla). We also run athletic events such as our Student Indoor Tailgate.

  • Upon being hired, my role was to increase our engagement and brand awareness across UTSA and the community.

  • I met with students and faculty to understand how much (or little) we were known. The results were: very little.

  • My personal mission began: Get everyone on campus to know who we are!

  • I created flyers and walked around campus handing them out to increase membership. I also developed giveaways and promotional material to increase engagement on social media.

  • My major success was collaborating with Rowdy Crew, the UTSA student section, to have athletes help sponsor us through fundraising events (such as “Pie at the Paseo”). In addition, we helped market our artists for our major events such as Echosmith and Tai Verdes.

  • Working with our team of event coordinators, we worked to ensure our events were meeting the needs of the students and community. We also ensured our content was following trends and keeping our primary audience (college students) engaged.

next steps

  • I created a brand guide and mission statement to ground Roadrunner Productions for years to come.

  • Through collaboration with faculty and an amazing group of volunteers, we were able to increase membership by 30 members, increase account engagement by 84.4%, and increase post interactions by 173%.

  • Upon our survey following Dia en la Sombrilla, 45% of attendees heard of the event through social media.

  • We had record-breaking ticket sales for our major and minor events, along with highest attendance for our Student Indoor Tailgate.

  • Officially, Roadrunner Productions is a staple at UTSA and continuing to grow with minor events such as Drag Bingo, Hypnotist, and more (all by listening to what the students and community want).
